My big complaint about the first Songs: Ohio album was that it was recorded way too soft, the whole thing was scaled way too down for what it was. With this album, all those complaints are gone. Jason Molina's off-pitch, slightly abrasive voice comes across beautifully in this, backed up by a nice, almost acoustic sounding band and the occasional female vocalist that works to balance the whole thing out just right. The whole thing's got this nice, intimate feeling to it, like something that might just happen in your living room after a few cases of beer during a power outage. This is, of course, assuming that your friends are decent musicians that bring their instruments along with them everywhere and they aren't afraid of the dark.
