Manishevitz - Grammar Bell and the All Fall Down (Jagjaguwar)

Oh, I just love this album. It's so sad and gloomy and over-the-top, reminds me a lot of early Leonard Cohen for some reason, the taking of little slices of ordinary life and turning them into something extremely tragic and immensely important. But wait, not only are the lyrics impressive feats of poetry, the instrumentals on this are just incredible, with awesome violin accompaniment, Southern Gothic guitar, and a drum kit that sounds like it's slowly, slowly being beat to death. Not the best album to put on at your next party (unless you belong to some death-wish hillbilly cult), but lots of fun to listen to while you're thinking deep, meaningful thoughts and smoking incredibly long cigarettes to.
